Nurhaya Aisyah, a 53 year old woman has passed through the most tragic phase of her life. Before the struck of Tsunami in December 2004, her life was joyous and complete with two children and her husband. She did not have to think about engaging herself in income earning activities, as her husband had a business, which earned them sufficient money to live a comfortable life. Her son was married and daughter was at her teen age.
She will never forget the day Tsunami struck. Cruel bite of Tsunami turned everything upside-down. She lost her husband and daughter. Everything got shattered in front of her. It was as if all her happiness has been taken away from her life. She did not know how to start and where to start from.
Life goes on. She now lives with her son and two grand sons. She started realizing the necessity of earning her livings. With this thought she bought a van to run a small shop in which she sells goods like detergent, snacks, handmade packaged food. She goes door to door and sells her products. But the income she used to earn was not sufficient to earn a decent living. Learning about the financial services of Aceh Grameen Credit Project from one of her neighbors, she went and talked to the Center Manager. She became very thrilled about the program and joined the Center No. 18 on June 18, 2007.
She received the first loan of Rp. 1,000,000 (USD 88) which she used for buying more goods to sell in her shop. After six months she received another loan of Rp. 500,000 (USD 44). She is now very satisfied with her business. Everyday she sells products worth Rp. 400,000 (USD 35), which earns her net profit of Rp. 50,000 (USD 5).
It is her self-esteem and the assistance from the Aceh Grameen Credit Project, that helped her reach at this stage and start life afresh with new hopes and dreams.
