Grameen Trust (GT) conducted a mission in Glasgow, Scotland, from December 6 to 11, 2009, at the invitation of the Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) to further develop the proposal to establish a Grameen microcredit project in Scotland. During the mission the GT delegation, led by Professor H. I. Latifee, met with Professor Pamela Gillies, Principal and Vice Chancellor, Glasgow Caledonian University, and others, including university officials and representatives from various government and non-government organizations. The delegation visited Sighthill and Easterhouse, two poverty pockets in Glasgow, accompanied by Mr. Colin McCallum and Dr. Zasheem Ahmed of GCU. He also met with Professor Cam Donaldson, the first Yunus Chair in Social Business and Health at the GCU.
Glasgow Caledonian University organized a special seminar and discussion on "Grameen Banking and its Replication in Scotland" on Thursday, December 10, 2009. Professor H. I. Latifee made the keynote presentation and held lively discussion with the audience following his speech. Participants, including academics, students, researchers, microfinance supporters and members of the civil society, attended the seminar. The Seminar was Chaired by Professor Pamela Gillies.
